Research and Innovation Zone Report April/May 2023

The Research and Innovation Zone ran from 17 April to 26 May 2023 and was funded by The STEM Ambassadors Scheme.

The activity featured 44 STEM ambassadors working across a variety of fields.

STEM Ambassadors

36 STEM ambassadors created profiles in the Zone. See who took part ❯

Students

454 students from 18 schools logged into the Zone.

72% of active students were from priority schools: 23%
from underserved schools and 59% from widening
participation schools.

Live Chats

36 live Chats were booked, and 24 live Chats took place. None of these were evening Chats.

On average, 7 STEM ambassadors attended each Chat.

What is I’m a Scientist?

I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here is an online activity where school students get to meet and interact with scientists.

It’s a competition between scientists, where the students are the judges.

Students challenge the scientists over intense, fast-paced, online live Chats. Then they Ask the scientists all the questions they want to, and Vote for their favourite scientist to win a prize of £500 to communicate their work with the public.
