In Spring 2024, I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here underwent a significant change in its delivery model. Instead of themed zones, teachers were given the flexibility to choose when and what to discuss based on their curriculum topics. Which also meant, scientists could choose to take part in more specific Chats and around their schedule.
During this term, 5,240 students from 116 schools participated, engaging with 609 scientists across various STEM fields.
The majority of participating schools were priority schools; based on widening participation data and distance from major research institutions.
The activity covered various themes, including general science, biology, chemistry, physics, and special events like British Science Week and National Careers Week.
The Chats provided students with opportunities to ask questions, discuss real-life applications of curriculum topics. Students were also active in asking Follow-up questions and casting Votes for their favorite scientists. Over the term, 554 follow-up questions were asked, and 1,740 votes were cast.
Feedback from teachers and students indicated high levels of engagement, with students appreciating the informal atmosphere and personalised interactions.
