The best crash course in science communication

While formal training can instruct early career researchers on the techniques of good communication, it isnโ€™t until those skills are put into practice that they are truly understood. 

Past alumni, like Suzi Gage, Liam Taylor and Julian Raynor, report how participation transformed their public engagement practice. 


Through the Academy, participants reflect on their experience in Iโ€™m a Scientist and what theyโ€™ve learned about public engagement in practice.

Participants in our projects report improved communication skills and an increase in motivation to do more, shown by many in a significant increase in the amount of engagement carried out after taking part.

Two-thirds of participating school students are from schools with above average rates of Free School Meal provision and/or more than 30 minutes drive from their nearest university.

Iโ€™m a Scientist helps you in reaching your EDI goals.

Two-thirds of participating school students are from schools with above average rates of Free School Meal provision and/or more than 30 minutes drive from their nearest university. Our projects help you engage the students that are often missed out in traditional engagement efforts. 

While Iโ€™m a Scientist is currently the largest of our projects, we also have opportunities for non-science researchers through Iโ€™m a Geographer, Iโ€™m a Mathematician, Iโ€™m History and Iโ€™m a Designer.


Our HEI packages are flexible:

  • CDTs: 5 researchers per year for 2 years @ ยฃ300 each
  • Faculty: 15+ researchers per year @ ยฃ300 each
  • University: 30+ researchers per year @ ยฃ250 each

Youโ€™ll be provided with all the promotional materials needed to help you recruit participants. They sign up. We take it from there and report back to you on the engagement taking place.
