Space Zone report December 2022

The Space Zone ran from 20 September to 16 December 2022 and was funded by the UK Space Agency.

The activity featured 20 STEM professionals working across a variety of roles in Space.

Scientists

20 STEM professionals created profiles in the Zone. See who took part ❯

The winner of the Zone, who was Ben Dryer, won £500 to deliver further engagement activities.

Students

893 students from 31 schools logged into the Zone.

62% of active students were from schools considered priority: 40% from underserved schools and 30% from widening participation schools.

Live Chats

68 live Chats were booked and 38 live Chats took place.

On average, 3 STEM professionals attended each live Chat.

What is I’m a Scientist?

I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here is an online activity where school students get to meet and interact with scientists.

It’s a competition between scientists, where the students are the judges.

Students challenge the scientists over intense, fast-paced, online live Chats. Then they Ask the scientists all the questions they want to, and Vote for their favourite scientist to win a prize of £500 to communicate their work with the public.
