Moderator Vacancies

Join our team of dedicated online moderators this March and support school students to see STEM as something ‘for them’.

This is an opportunity to engage with curious young minds while contributing to their educational journey in a meaningful way.

The I’m a… activities are for students aged 10 to 18. They interact with real STEM professionals through text-based chats. As an online moderator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that these interactions are informative, respectful, and enjoyable for all participants.

Position: Online Moderator
Location: Remote (work comfortably from your own space)
Time period: Thursday 5 to Friday 20 March 2026
Hours: Weekdays, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm GMT
Whilst we can’t guarantee a set number of hours, we are expecting to be busy. You will be part of a bank of moderators across whom the work will be allocated.
Pay: £12.75/hr

The role includes:

  • Checking the site for inappropriate content
  • Moderating Chats
  • Collecting great moments
  • Reporting on school interactions

All our moderators must be DBS checked. Either let us know you are DBS checked and registered with the update service — see details on the GOV.UK website – OR you’re happy for us to request a DBS check for you should your application be successful

Things we think will help you in the role:

  • You enjoy being online and maybe already have experience in an online community
  • You’re flexible around the hours specified
  • You’re ready to work from home with a reliable broadband connection
  • Great attention to detail
  • You’re bright, thoughtful, and pick stuff up easily
  • You have an interest in STEM

How to Apply:

We’re regularly looking for moderators to join the team. Please let me know why you’d like to do this role by submitting your CV and a brief cover letter to me (Hannah) at work@imascientist.org.uk.
