Plastic Zone Report October 2022

The Plastic Zone ran from 26 September to 21 October 2022 and was funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and UKRI.

The activity featured 25 scientists working on plastic and polymer creation, re-use, and management.

25 scientists created profiles in the Zone. See who took part ❯

The winner of the Zone was Dan Day, who won £500 to deliver further engagement activities.

Students

851 students from 26 schools logged into the Zone.

Impressively, 94% of active students were from priority schools: 51% from widening participation schools and 48% from underserved schools.

Live Chats

75 live Chats were booked in the Zone and 44 live Chats took place.

On average, 3 scientists took part in each live Chat.

What is I’m a Scientist?

I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here is an online activity where school students get to meet and interact with scientists.

It’s a competition between scientists, where the students are the judges.

Students challenge the scientists over intense, fast-paced, online live Chats. Then they Ask the scientists all the questions they want to, and Vote for their favourite scientist to win a prize of £500 to communicate their work with the public.
